Founder & Head Guide
Originally from the icy hills of the mid-western United States, Justin learned to ski at the age of 4 from his father, a volunteer ski patrolman. He moved to Vail, Colorado at the age of 19, where he began his career as a backcountry ski guide. After several years honing his skills in the Rocky Mountains, guiding ski touring, ski mountaineering, hut trips, and snowcat skiing, Justin yearned for more and sought greater career opportunities. In 2006, he attended an American Mechanized Ski Guide course with Dean Cummings’ H2O Guides in Valdez, Alaska. Later that same year, Justin spent the entire ski season in Bariloche and founded Patagonia Ski Tours – read more in Our Story. To capitalize on his experience in Alaska, Justin moved to the infamous Wasatch Range of Utah to work as a heliski guide with Powderbird Helicopter Skiing (formerly known as Wasatch Powderbird Guides), where he has now been guiding full-time for 8 years. He also works part-time as a snow safety technician at Snowbird Ski Resort, mitigating avalanche hazard on ‘down days’. Justin’s quest for the endless winter and his passion to share the sport of skiing with others continues to drive him every day.
Lead Guide & Photojournalist
Sean, a.k.a. ‘Juan de los Andes’, spent the majority of his youth in the forested hills of the Appalachian Mountains and discovered skiing at a young age. Deciding to venture west in 2005, he enrolled at the University of Utah and began his tutelage as a mountain professional at Snowbird Ski Resort. Graduating with a degree in Marketing and Tourism in 2008, Sean also transitioned to ski patrolling and spent over 120 days a season managing formidable avalanche terrain and honing his skills under a variety of great mentors. 2011 marked a pivotal year as he joined the Patagonia Ski Tours guide team and focused on year-round winter adventuring. In addition to his roles as Lead Guide for PST, Sean still ski patrols and guides snowcat skiing and alpine tours at Snowbird. However, his true passion is education and he teaches over a hundred students per season about backcountry safety and rescue through his involvement with AIARE (American Institute for Avalanche Research and Education) and the AAA (American Avalanche Association). He also shares his experiences with others through photos and journalistic endeavors and has been published in regional and national publications for nearly a decade.
Logistics Coordinator & IATA-accredited Travel Agent
Native to the bustling metropolis of Buenos Aires, Catalina also spent many years of her childhood in the farmlands of Cordoba. She started skiing at the age of 21 at Las Leñas ski resort in Mendoza, Argentina. After receiving her degree in Occupational Therapy at the University of Buenos Aires, Catalina traveled to Vail, Colorado, as part of a work & travel program. She fell in love with the mountain town culture and began skiing nearly every day in the winter, eventually becoming an expert skier. Catalina has been living the never summer life, flip-flopping hemispheres, since 2005. In search of greater career opportunities, Catalina moved to the Wasatch Mountains of Utah in 2009, where she splits her time between parenting, working as an Occupational Therapist and Travel Agent, and skiing at Snowbird Ski Resort. In addition to serving as the Logistics Coordinator for Patagonia Ski Tours, Catalina also runs our Buenos Aires operations (transportation & lodging services, city tours, and other local experiences). She’s our logistics super hero. Gracias por todo, Cata!
